Project One

LUMBER LANE, BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY

Lumber Lane was a decade long transformation of former potato fields into a lushly planted 15 acre residence. It included 2 houses, swimming pools, a barn & paddock, walking paths, tennis court, vegetable garden and small tree nursery. Every design decision was guided by one thing—my desire to create a place that felt like it had always been there. I used the empty fields and what they naturally wanted to grow as the foundation for returning the property to it’s natural state. Red Cedar, Bayberry, Russian Olive, Goldenrod and one existing tree line of mature Native Black Cherry trees became the inspiration for what followed. I grew and transplanted Yoshino Cherry, Vibernum, Serviceberry, Lilac bush and Dogwood and seeded in wildflowers and native grasses wherever possible. Additional plants included: Oak, Sassafras, Crepe Myrtle, Sumac, Wisteria, Boxwood, Bog Myrtle, Agastache, Rosa Rugosa, Russian Sage.
