Project Three
CHEREMOYA AVENUE,
BEACHWOOD CANYON, L.A.
Nestled in the Hollywood Hills this 1920’s Spanish bungalow was without a front garden. The small plantable area was covered in ivy and lacked color, privacy and relief from the hot afternoon sun. The design I created emphasized native and drought tolerant plants with attention to specific areas needing screening from the street. Existing railroad ties were used for the retaining wall and a metal gate to mark the entrance. A vine covered pergola was added to cool a portion of the house and define a small seating area. California plants like Desert Willow, Ceanothus and Wax Myrtle sprout from an underplanting of Deer Grass, Salvia and Coyote Brush.
